The Minister of Communications, Digital Technology and Innovations leads Ghana’s delegation to the Extraordinary Congress of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO)
The Minister of Communication, Digital Technology and Innovations, Honourable Samuel Nartey George (MP), is leading Ghana’s delegation to the 2025 Extraordinary Congress of the WMO (Cg-Ext 2025), which is being held at the WMO headquarters in Geneva from 20th to 24th October 2025. Other members of the delegation includes officials from the Ministry of Communications, Ghana Meteorological Agency and Permanent Mission of Ghana in Geneva.
The Honourable Minister participated in the opening session, as well as the High-Level Event on the Early Warnings for All (EW4All) Initiative, which was held on 20th October 2024. During his intervention, the Hon. Minister highlighted that Africa remains one of the most susceptible regions to the effects of climate change, despite contributing the least to global emissions.
He added that from the prolonged droughts in the Sahel to devastating floods in East and West Africa, extreme weather continues to threaten lives, disrupt economies and reverse hard won development gains. Ghana, like many of its neighbouring countries, is not an exception. He also revealed that Africa accounts for 35% of global fatalities related to weather, climate and water-related fatalities, yet 40% of its population has access to early warning systems, the lowest coverage in the world.
