As the global community celebrates the vital contribution of Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to economic growth, innovation and job creation, Ghana reached another important milestone in its trade diplomacy by joining the WTO Informal Working Group on MSMEs as its 106th Member.

At the Working Group meeting on 29th June, 2026, H.E. Ambassador Emmanuel Kwame Asiedu Antwi, Ghana’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the WTO, delivered Ghana's statement on behalf of H.E. President John Dramani Mahama and the Hon. Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare (MP).

In the statement, H.E reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to working with fellow WTO Members to advance practical solutions that enable MSMEs, particularly those in developing countries, to participate more effectively in regional and global trade.

Ambassador Antwi underscored the need to address persistent challenges facing MSMEs, including access to trade finance, compliance with international standards, and integration into regional and global value chains. The statement also commended the Working group for its impactful work in supporting MSMEs and encouraged them to strengthen partnerships that deliver practical, results-oriented support to small businesses.

MSMEs remain the backbone of Ghana's economy and are central to the Government's economic transformation agenda. Ghana looks forward to contributing actively to the work of the Group and collaborating with Members to build a more inclusive and development-oriented multilateral trading system.
