GHANA 68TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY THANKSGIVING IN GENEVA
On Saturday, 8th March, 2025, the Ghanaian Community in Geneva held a thanksgiving service in commemoration of Ghana's 68th independence anniversary.
Participants included Ghanaians living and working in Geneva, as well as members of staff of the Geneva Mission.
Delivering a statement during the service, H.E. Emmanuel Antwi extended gratitude to the President and leadership of the Ghanaian Community for organizing the event, which has proven to foster unity and togetherness among the community as they commemorate Ghana's independence anniversary each year. He recalled that at the thanksgiving service held last year he had entreated participants to pray for peaceful elections back home. He added that fortunately, God answered those prayers and that on 7th December 2024, Ghanaians went to the polls and chose a President and a brand new Parliament, in yet another election that has been lauded internationally as free, fair and generally peaceful.
He stated that since taking over the reins of power on 7th January, 2025, the new government, led by President John Dramani Mahama, had outlined its policy vision and taken a series of measures aimed at putting the Ghanaian economy on the path of recovery. Some of these measures include fighting corruption, accountability, job creation, running of lean and frugal government and infrastructural development. He highlighted that it was based on this that the government chose the theme "Reflect, Review and reset" for this year's Independence day celebrations.
He further outlined some of the initiatives and policies of that are expected to be introduced by the new government, which included the 24-hour economy and the Big Push Programme for National Infrastructure Development. He also informed participants about the operationalisation of the Consular and Welfare Fund which would be accessible to Ghana Missions Abroad to assist Ghanaian migrants who may find themselves in dire situations.
H.E. Antwi reaffirmed the commitment of the Mission in Geneva to continually provide assistance, through Consular Services, to Ghanaians in Geneva. He concluded by commending participants for being worthy ambassadors of Ghana in Switzerland.
